From Arabic scales to Spanish cantilenas, from Greek laments to Italian tarantellas, the music of the Mediterranean shares a common language: intense emotion, rhythms that echo the waves, and melodies that carry memories of wandering and love. Each song — whether it speaks of exile or celebration — holds at its core the same human need: to unite, to soothe, and to uplift.

Internationally acclaimed soprano Sonia Theodoridou, renowned for her cross-over approach, together with Ensemble Sonus Amantes and the choirs Cantelena and Polymnia, reveal this hidden kinship among the peoples of the sea. A musical journey where the pulse of the tambouras meets the guitar, the violin embraces the mandolin, and voices merge in a sound that transcends borders and eras.

“Songs shining in the sunlight and bathed in the silver glow of the moon. Songs that express desires, passions, memories, expectations, loves and farewells. Melodies that take us back to ancient civilisations — to days of glory but also of war. This is the Mediterranean, our sea. The womb that binds its peoples through song, with melodies carrying the salt of the sea, melodies that touch our very soul.”
(S. Theodoridou)
